THE ISLAND OF VERSAILLES

The island of Versailles was originally erected on a marshy site. It was consolidated in 1831 with the earth due to the digging of the canal from Nantes to Brest. During more of a century, its activity was extremely active but from 1 950, it was gradually abandoned. Its redevelopment is decided in 1983. Today, the island defines as the ultimate emergence of the geography of Nantes. It pulls its originality from its garden and its buildings processed according to a Japanese theme. Landscapes thus represented express the variety thanks to the many presence coins of water, beaches of pebbles, rocks and bridges, without forgeting the exotic plantation existence. The house of the Erdre, to the heart of the island, symbolizes a Japanese pavilion opened to all. The interior offers a diving within the fauna and the flora of our rivers. An area of games has been installed for the joy of children. There are also: a service of rental of Pédalos, boats, houseboat, and small motorboats as well as a high gastronomy restaurant.
The island of Versailles, real exoticism anchored to the edge of the Erdre, invites you thus to the discovery of the history of Nantes, its river and by extension, the fluvial tourism. To crown your travel of Nantes, you have not more than to embark so as to discover to the thread of the water our enchanting landscapes and the appeal of our rivers.
